MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Virginia College Parents is seeking members in order to increase our influence in changing the alcohol intense culture at Virginia's colleges and universities. Although difficult to measure, the most important benefit of membership is the increased health, safety and security of students and the knowledge that you support an organization determined to redress a long standing problem that you as an individual may not believe you can fix. Virginia College Parents will also soon begin to publish and distribute to members a newsletter intended to keep them apprised of events and incidents on college campuses, information on alcohol and drug abuse among students, results of research and studies and efforts to resolve the problem.

COST OF MEMBERSHIP

There is currently no membership dues requirement. Based upon the level of grant funding made available and contributions received, Virginia College Parents may, in the future, seek voluntary payment of a nominal amount of dues to offset costs in publishing and distributing a newsletter and providing presentations to groups throughout Virginia.

PRESENTATION CAPABILITY

Upon request, Virginia College Parents will, whenever possible, provide volunteer speakers to make presentations on the risks associated with hi-risk and underage drinking and drunk driving, the physiology of alcohol consumption, applicable laws and/or the impact of an alcohol related tragedy to groups of students and or parents. Groups requesting presentations are responsible for provision of a facility where the presentation will be made. Otherwise, there is no cost to groups requesting a presentation.

NEWSLETTER

Virginia College Parents intends to publish and distribute a periodic newsletter and welcomes suggestions regarding material to be included in the newsletter.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Virginia College Parents relies on volunteers to the maximum extent possible to accomplish its goals. Parents of students who strongly support our advocacy are needed on our Board of Directors. Individuals who can assist in making presentations and/or in providing administrative support are also encouraged to contact us.

CONTRIBUTIONS WELCOME

Virginia College Parents competes for grant funding from federal, state and local government sources. Grant funding is extremely limited and has, to date, been difficult to obtain. All other funding for Virginia College Parents is from contributions. Virginia College Parents does not endorse products or commercial entities based upon receipt of contributions.
